The Stanley Foundation seeks a Program Associate for a 24-month limited-term position to work in support of the foundation’s overall goal of promoting principled multilateralism in international affairs, which is at the core of all foundation programming. In particular, this position will involve:
* Substantive and administrative support work for the Stanley Foundation’s various policy and outreach activities on US foreign policy and global security issues.
* Support of the Stanley Foundation’s new media strategy, including filming and post-production of video products; improving the foundation’s online and social media presence; and leveraging other new technologies and media to further the foundation’s outreach strategy.
* Writing, editing, and promotion of publications and other outputs, especially those aimed at the media and broader public.
* Facilitate relationships among media, policy experts, citizen-based organizations, and foundation staff.
* Research and fact-checking in support of foundation products and projects on diverse issues.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working as part of teams and with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and should have the willingness and ability to handle both multiple areas of foreign policy substance and logistical details for foundation policy and outreach efforts. We are seeking an individual who is well organized and able to track details, effective in managing information, articulate, and able to take initiative and work in a fast-paced atmosphere.
Requirements include:
* A demonstrated interest in international politics, particularly subject areas relating to peace and security issues.
* A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with coursework in a relevant discipline (international relations, journalism, communications, political science, history, area studies, or other related social science field).
* A willingness to research and learn new subject areas as needed to support the foundation’s ongoing programming.
* A willingness to build relationships with media outlets and citizen groups relevant to foundation efforts.
* A willingness to work flexible hours with some heavy periods of international and domestic travel.
* Strong writing skills.
* Knowledge of common computer applications including some Web site, database, and information management software.
* Video production experience.
Desirable qualities include:
* Previous travel, study, or work abroad; internships in a field such as journalism, international understanding, or public policy; and/or volunteer activities to promote international peace/justice.
* Some knowledge of relevant international, nongovernmental, and citizen-based organizations dealing with international affairs.
* Foreign language skills.
* Some knowledge of media/newsroom operations.
* Some experience with Final Cut Pro
This position will be full-time, temporary (initial employment term limited to 24 months, with possibility of renewal). The foundation offers competitive salary and benefits.
LOCATION. This position is located at the foundation headquarters in Muscatine, Iowa, a community of 25,000 people on the Mississippi River. The area offers affordable housing and a variety of recreational opportunities and is located 40 miles from Iowa City, a UNESCO City of Literature housing the University of Iowa, the state’s largest university.
