10 Transcendent Prayers for Lent

Lent is a time of giving up bad habits which can be easier said than done, but we can look to the Lord to help us persist. Here are 10 transcendent prayers for lent.

Start of Lent Prayer
Lord Jesus, as the season of lent begins, prepare my heart in the same way You prepared to be crucified on the cross. In these next few weeks, help me remember Your great life and sacrifice, which made my relationship with You today possible. Allow me to intentionally give something up to practice fasting and abstinence and to refocus my life toward You. I love You, Jesus. I’m sorry for forgetting to put You first so often. Amen.

Prayer of Repentance
Forgiving Father, today I am reminded of my own sins and my need to repent. I ask you to deliver me from my earthly desires and sinful nature. I want to train myself in the way of the Lord. This lent I hope to surrender fully the thoughts that distract me from You and better use my spare time to glorify You. I am sorry for the ways I have fallen short. I am sorry for relying on others or on myself. Instead, help me to rely on You. Forgive me, Lord. I love You. Amen.

Learning to Wait on You Prayer
Jesus, my Savior, I am struggling to know what to do with my time during lent. As I participate in fasting from something in my life, I find myself filling that time with other bad habits instead of using that absence to focus on You and be reminded of You. God, I am not fully sure how to be alone with You. Let these next weeks be a time of learning and waiting on You. I pray that You help me start good habits that help me glorify You. Amen.

Overcoming and Remembrance Prayer
Almighty God, as I feel tempted to give up on my fasting, remind me of all the struggles You overcame in Your time on earth. You survived forty days in the desert with Satan, You were tricked by the Pharisees, and You were crucified on a cross and abandoned by Your disciples. Jesus, if You can overcome death. I can overcome this. Help me remember why I am fasting in the first place and let this time be refreshing for my soul. In You, God, all is made new. In You, all is possible. Amen.

Prepare My Heart Prayer
Heavenly Father, as we begin counting down to Easter, help me remember the meaning behind Your death and resurrection. Prepare my mind and heart and help me feel the weight of the pain and hardships You had to face so that I could experience eternal life. God, it is so easy to hear the stories of Your death and take them at face value. But to truly think about what You had to go through for the sake of mankind is amazing. You, God, are amazing. May I meditate on Your glory and Your sacrifice this Lenten season. Amen.

Fix My Eyes Prayer
Precious Holy Spirit, help me center my focus on You. Slow the thoughts in my mind and allow me to fix my eyes on You. God, I know that I do not deserve You or Your sacrifice, but I am so thankful that You are a gracious God. During this season of Lent, help me concentrate on your glory, your name, your love, and your sacrifice. Help me create Godly habits that I can continue throughout the rest of the year. Amen.

In Surrender Prayer
I come to You, Jesus, in surrender and confession. Though I wish I could say that I do this always, this season of Lent reminds me of my sins and Your mercy. Forgive me, God, for failing to put You first over and over again. Allow me to start anew. God, Your patience and compassion astound me. Thank You for forgiving me, though we both know I will mess up and need to repent again before this day is over. Without Your mercy, I would have no hope. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.

Prayer When Distracted
Righteous Lord, I come to You distracted and without any motivation. I know that this time of Lent is supposed to be a time of fasting and preparation of my heart for Easter, but today I feel ill-equipped for either. I am exhausted and the last thing I want to do is come to You in prayer. But, Jesus, here I am in my weakness and distractions. Be my motivation and my rest. Assist me in preparing my heart because on my own, I can do nothing. I love You, God. Forgive me for my times of unbelief. Amen.

New Habits Prayer
Heavenly Father, this season of Lent has created a new spirit within me, and I feel renewed in Your love and compassion. God, with Easter around the corner, I pray that You help me keep the dedication I have and the newness I feel far past the end of the Lenten season. God, I do not want these new habits to just be for a time, but I want this closeness I feel to You to be lifelong. Help me, God, for I know I am weak beyond measures. Amen.

Prayer of Thankfulness
Lord Jesus, thank You. Thank You for the sacrifices You made on the cross. Thank You for dying for my sins and the sins of everyone who came before me and will come after. God, thank You for coming into the world as a human to live a perfect life so that we could have eternal life. Your sacrifices are beyond understanding. Your works are miraculous. God, help me remember these things as we come to the end of the Lenten season and meditate on Your true goodness. I love You and am forever grateful. Amen.
