Progressing into the college years can be a difficult time for children. From moving away from home to having to balance new academic schedules, testing, and adapting new study habits, these young adolescents should be in fervent prayer. These great blessings and prayers for college students offer a good way to seek guidance from God and find balance.
Dear Lord, as I continue in this new college life help me never to forget to devote time of praise and worship to You. I know that you are the One who sustains me and the least I can do for everything that You have done for me is to dedicate time to You. Help me to know that renewing my mind in You is a necessary part of my life. Nudge me out of bed on Sunday and if there is a good mid-week service please make it so I can go to that too. Send new friends my way that are like-minded Christians who will attend services with me and hold me accountable when I am absent. I love you Lord and I want to praise and worship You. In Jesus name, Amen
Dear Lord, I come to you because I want to be sure that I am keeping company with this right people. God I know that relationships require careful cultivation and attention. Help me to be friendly to others and to welcome them into my world. Help me to shine the light of Jesus to them so that they too can see how happy I am in You. Remind me that sometimes I need to ask forgiveness when I have offended others. Help me to be forgiving when others have offended me. God I want to be a great example of Christianity to everyone I meet. I pray that you will help me never to forget that I must take time to work on relationships … just like a garden, for them to grow I must be devoted to them. I pray in Jesus name, Amen.
Father, thank you for my student. This life you’ve woven in them is wonderful. During this school year, whether it’s in the dorm adjusting to their roommates, standing on the marching band or athletic field, sitting in a classroom, or staring at their homework, may my student park their thoughts on you.
Protect my child against self-harm, failure, depression, and laziness. Surround them with your truth concerning drugs, alcohol, sex, and faith. Close the door on blame, bad-mouthing, judgment, and condemnation. May they consider and cherish, instead, what is true, allowing your perfect love to cast out all fear. May they dwell on all that’s honorable, just, pure, and lovely.
May he/she toss aside the bad, clinging to the good – especially when it comes to relationships and their future with you. May virtue and praise echo in their mind and be reflected in their words and actions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Dear Precious Father, as I learn to live independently outside of the boundaries that were set for me at home, please help me to make good choices that will keep my thoughts, words and deeds pure. I want to honor You with my choices. As I choose how I spend my time remind me that You are always with me and that my choices should be things that please You. Help me to stay away from the things that will temp me to do the things that I know are not edifying to You.
Remind me that it is my choice and that I can talk to You any time that I am having troubling making good choices. Keep me in the company of others that have a good walk with You so that I too can have a good walk. I know you will guide me and for this I am so thankful. I know Your wisdom is pure, help me to desire only Your wisdom. I pray this through Jesus, Amen.
Dear Lord, I pray for all of my Instructors, Professors and Administrators. As we are told in the Bible, as a student (disciple) our teachers are above us and as we grow and learn we strive to be like our teacher. Please give them the wisdom, strength and courage to be the best instructor and administrator that they can be. Help them to stay healthy as they do well to teach us. Lord, if they do not know you as personal Savior, I pray that they come to know you and in doing so that their instruction and work is glorifying to You. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
Creator of all things, true source of light and wisdom,
origin of all being,
graciously let a ray of your light penetrate
the darkness of my understanding.
Take from me the double darkness
in which I have been born,
an obscurity of sin and ignorance.
Give me a keen understanding,
a retentive memory, and
the ability to grasp things correctly and fundamentally.
Grant me the talent of being exact
in my explanations and the ability to express myself
with thoroughness and charm.
Point out the beginning,
direct the progress,
and help in the completion.
I ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Lord, you’ve given my student the ability to communicate, and it is good. May their words be acceptable in your sight. When they attempt to muffle or stuff words out of fear or uncertainty, may they be brave and allow godly communication its opportunity. When they face a tough conversation, I pray they persevere, continuing to trust you.
Most importantly, Lord, may my young woman/man communicate with you on a regular basis. I pray they seek you and nourish a desire to hear your voice daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Father, as I study away from home – I am not alone
You are my friend – help me to meet new people
You are my encourager – come build my confidence and vision
You are my teacher – help me to learn and gain wisdom
You are my comforter – hold me when I’m lonely or afraid
You are my counsellor – I share my excitement and worries with you
You are my protector – I lay my life into your safe hands
Thank you for your presence with me now, Amen.
Heavenly Father I pray that you will give me the guidance that I need to have fun while still maintaining a schedule of proper study and needed rest. Help me to know that sometimes I need to “bow out” of a particular social event in order to meet the needs of academic success. Protect me as I seek your help in scheduling time for everything. I love you Father and pray this in Jesus name, Amen.
Be with me as I take this exam.
Keep my mind alert and my memory sharp.
Calm my nerves and help me concentrate.
I know that you walk with me,
Guiding my path and inspiring my heart.
I pray that I would feel you with me,
And that your friendship would soften the pressure I feel.
I pray that I would pass this exam and go on to new things with you.
Thank you for your peace and your love in my life.
Thank you for your kindness and care for me.
Lord, you have made the eye for your purposes. With wisdom you beautifully knit each one. May my child guard their eyes well. I pray they’ll grab wisdom, allowing it to filter what they choose to see and not see. May understanding lead their focus, causing them to turn from situations formatted by darkness.
May they, instead, allow the light of your Word to filter their sight concerning friends, dates, movies, educational content, and any situation in which their eyes are involved. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
God of life and love, you have given me this child to care for this little while.
Calm my fears. Strengthen and protect my child in the midst of the challenges and temptations which surround all students. Grant greater courage that I myself may have had in standing for your truth against compromises of faith.
Provide good friends and worthy confidants for my child during these college years. Help me to give support and confidence, to discern how I am needed now, and to pass on, in my love, a measure of the strength and courage you have given me in the gift of parenting.
Dear God, I so enjoy my independence while away at college. As I plan a trip home for a visit please help me to honor my parents as I obey the house rules that they have. I know that the rules are there for my own good. Help me to show that while I have gained independence during my time away that I understand that it is their house so I must obey their rules. Lord, I think this might be hard for me but I know that You will guide me and gently remind me of the honor that is due to my parents while I am in their house. Please grant me my desire dear Lord, In Jesus name, Amen.
