15 Powerful Prayers for Our Children’s Future

Focusing our energy on the next generation and teaching them the morals and values they need to live and have a safe and prosperous future seems like a worthy enough cause. However, we can not do it alone. These powerful prayers for our children’s future serve as the perfect example to the types of prayers we need to recite to lean on the Lord’s ability to direct their future.

Prayer #1

Father, we thank you that in you we have hope and a future for our precious children. Lord, we pray our children would be strong in Your ways, and not be influenced by the evil we see everyday in our culture. Let our children love you with all their hearts, souls, and minds and be faithful to You as their first love. Amen.

Prayer #2

Father, our children are the future leaders of our nation. Help them to concentrate on achieving their goals and aspirations. Remind them that they are children of Your mighty kingdom and no force of darkness will ever harm them in Your presence, where they belong.

Prayer #3

Father, You are powerful to hold the future in Your hands. The direction of our lives is no more predictable to us than our children’s lives. We trust You with all of it, and praise You for the perfect way You have designed each human life.

Thank you for our children. They bless us in ways that our hearts know but our heads cannot make sense of. The forgiving grace in our hearts for our children is only a thread of the love You have for us… and them. Help us to remember that You loved our babies before we did and infinitely more than we do. We can trust You with their lives, and ask the strength of Your Holy Spirit to help us lead them to Your loving arms.

May the love we show for You be evident to them. Bless our lives to uphold Your truth and the testimony of Your Son–Our Savior–Jesus, to the best of our ability on this earth. Send Your Spirit to help us remember Your Word, and applicably pull it from the tucked-in places of our hearts, to point our children in the right direction. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer #4

Dear Father, we pray you would clothe our children in Your holy armor. We thank you that You are fighting the battle for us. Help our children to stand firm in Your ways. Give them the grace to persevere in a culture bent on stealing their sexual purity and love for you. Amen.

Prayer #5

Lord, we lift up prayer for our children. Lord, we ask for blessings on anything they may do, say and think. We ask for a hedge of protection around them. Protect them physically, mentally, and spiritually. We pray that you would keep them safe.

Prayer #6

Heavenly Father, give my child a discerning spirit! May they know in their gut if something is right or wrong. Many things in this life are permissible, but not all things are necessary. Give them convictions to stand strong in their peer groups. May they be leaders, and not followers. Give them such a keen sense of what will benefit their life and not hinder it! Proverbs 3:21 talks about not losing sight of wisdom and having discretion. I pray that for my child right now!

Prayer #7

Dear Lord,
Today, I once again bring my child to you. Please show me how to parent this precious gift that you have given me. Help me to be the best mother that I can be. I pray that Your Holy Spirit will teach me, Your wisdom will guide me, and Your love will move me. Most of all, Lord, I give this child to You. Please make him a servant after Your own heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer #8

Lord, I do not ask you for anything for me, that you would watch over and protect my child is all I ask of thee. Bless them as you have blessed me. Please make their lifes long, healthy, and happy. May you bless them with children of their own. Should the day come when they must walk the road without me, I ask that in your mercy you would see that in my absense they never walk the path alone. Please never let them forget that they are and always will be deeply loved by me. Amen.

Prayer #9

Dear God,

We praise you for your love and faithfulness. We thank you for your protection and care over our families. Thank you that you give us the power to love well; the wisdom to lead and teach our children. We know you’re for us; that you fight for our families today. You are Redeemer, Restorer, and Friend, we believe you have good in store. We confess, some days, parenting is tough. Many days we can feel anxious or overwhelmed. We ask that you would make us more like you, more aware of your constant Presence in our lives. Help us to release our children to You, so that You are free to fully accomplish all that You desire, in them, through them. Please fill our families with your truth and cover us with your favor.

Lord, we pray for these blessings over our children, today, and every day…

Prayer #10

O Lord
Come wrap my dear child up
Within your care today.
Fill their hearts with fun and joy
As they work and play.
Come real close and whisper in your love
Into their hearts I pray.
Be their ever-faithful friend
I trust you to keep them safe.
Amen.

Prayer #11

You are the hope ahead of my child
You are the peace beneath.
You are the love light at his/her side
Always aware of the things they need.
You are the shield behind them
You are the shelter above.
You are the joy bright in his/her heart
In you I put my trust.

Prayer #12

Father, thank you for creating us with the capacity to love deeply. We know that relationships begin with the feeling of love, but we know that relationships flourish only by acting in love. You showed us the greatest act of love by sending Jesus to die for our sins. I pray that my child’s spouse is experiencing Your great love at this very moment. Help them to receive Your redeeming love in a very personal way. Give them a heart that is full of love and ready and willing to forgive the mistakes that will happen their marriage. Show them what it looks like for love to win. Amen.

Prayer #13

Prayer #14

Father, thank you for the intricate way you have knitted us together in our mother’s womb. You made every part of us with the ability to relate to You and to others. Help my child’s spouse to keep their entire self pure—their body, their mind, and their spirit—as a gift to my child in marriage. Put peers in their lives who value purity and will hold them accountable. Give them role models who are living a life that honors You and honors their spouse. Help them to learn how to rely on You to resist temptation. Show them the way out when it seems too hard to say no. Amen.

Prayer #15

Father, thank You for wooing me to Your heart, just as a husband woos his bride. I pray that my child’s spouse will sense your unconditional love for them and realize their need for You at a young age. Make them a person after Your own heart. Put people in their life who will share the good news of the Gospel with them and model for them what a life led by Christ looks like. Give them the desire to follow You and the courage to say yes to You all the days of their life. May their relationship with You grow stronger day-by-day. Help them to trust You wholeheartedly and to always put You first, even after marriage. Amen.
