15 Short Christmas Prayers for Kids

Christmas is one of the most important holidays for Christians as we dedicate the holiday season to celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. These short Christmas prayers for kids will inspire you to teach your children to give praise and thanks to the Lord for the many blessings during this season.

Prayer #1

Lord God,
Today may we not only unwrap presents,
But may we discover more of your love.
Today may we not only eat on festive food,
But may we feast on your faith.
Today may we not only cherish happy times with family and friends,
But may we invite you into our lives.
Today may we not only sing carols that celebrate your birth,
But may we dwell upon the resurrected Christ alive this moment.
Living Lord, we long to discover your love, feast on your truth, invite you into our lives and thank you for your sacrifice. Amidst the presents, food and family we long to celebrate Christmas with you.

Prayer #2

Lord, you know what it means to be vulnerable
A fragile young life, a defenceless young babe
So may this heart be vulnerable and open
This Christmas with Christ, walking closer each day.

Prayer #3

Lord of heaven and earth,
We join today with Christians past and present to celebrate your birth.
Bind us together as one family with your love.
Thank you for your sacrifice Lord.
Today we eat and and give thanks your birth, life and resurrection.
We share this food, our lives and our hearts with one another,
In memory of you, our Saviour and Lord.

Prayer #4

Dear Jesus, I know I’m very blessed today, spending time with my family, having a yummy dinner, and getting to open presents, but I know there are many people who won’t get those things today. Please send those people lots of blessings, and let them know that someone was thinking about them on Christmas! Help me see how I can bless other people more too! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!

Prayer #5

Lord, I thank You for coming to earth so You could redeem me. When I think of the extent to which You were willing to go in order to save me, it makes me want to shout, to celebrate, and to cry with thankfulness. You love me so much, and I am so grateful for that love. Without You, I would still be lost and in sin. But because of everything You have done for me, today I am free; my life is blessed; Jesus is my Lord; Heaven is my home; and Satan has no right to control me. I will be eternally thankful to You for everything You did to save me! I pray this in Jesus’ name!

Prayer #6

Let Your goodness Lord appear to us, that we
made in your image, conform ourselves to it.
In our own strength
we cannot imitate Your majesty, power, and wonder
nor is it fitting for us to try.
But Your mercy reaches from the heavens
through the clouds to the earth below.
You have come to us as a small child,
but you have brought us the greatest of all gifts,
the gift of eternal love
Caress us with Your tiny hands,
embrace us with Your tiny arms
and pierce our hearts with Your soft, sweet cries.

Prayer #7

May you be filled with the wonder of Mary, the obedience of Joseph, the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds, the determination of the magi, and the peace of the Christ child. Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless you now and forever.

Prayer #8

Thank you God for sending Your Son on one glorious night to be born a virgin, to live a perfect life and to die on the cross for my sins. Thank you that he rose from the dead three days later and that this Christmas and every Christmas we can celebrate the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayer #9

Dear God, Today is my favorite day of the year, and this is my favorite dinner of the year! Thank you for this delicious food, and thank you for the people who made it, and please give me strength to help me clean up after it! Amen!

Prayer #10

Dear God, Help us to focus on you today, remembering that the gift of Christ, Immanuel, is our most treasured gift for the whole year through. Fill us with your joy and the peace of your Spirit. Direct our hearts and minds towards you. Thank you for your reminder that both in seasons of celebration and in seasons of brokenness, you’re still with us. You never leave us. Thank you for your daily Presence in our lives, that we can be assured your heart is towards us, your eyes are over us, and your ears are open to our prayers. Thank you that you surround us with favor as with a shield, we are safe in your care. We choose to press in close to you today… In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer #11

Father, today I celebrate the reality of Your presence in my life. I celebrate Your birth, Your life, Your death, and Your resurrection. And as I celebrate, Lord, help me to be “God with skin on” to those in need around me. Open my eyes and let me see them as You see them! I love You. Happy birthday Jesus! In Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer #12

Dear Father in Heaven, Thank you for giving us the gift of Jesus, the greatest Christmas gift of all. Please help me to remember why we celebrate, even as we eat Christmas cookies and open presents. Help me to be thankful for the real reason for the season, and without Jesus, we wouldn’t have Christmas anyways! I love you and thank you for giving us this day! Amen!

Prayer #13

Holy Creator of Trees,
bless with your abundant grace
this our Christmas tree as a symbol of joy.
May its evergreen branches be a sign
of your never-fading promises.
May its colorful lights and ornaments call us
to decorate with love our home and our world.
May the gifts that surround this tree
be symbols of the gifts we have received
from the Tree of Christ’s Cross.
Holy Christmas tree within our home,
may Joy and Peace come and nest
in your branches and in our hearts. Amen.

Prayer #14

Gentle Jesus born this day
In a manger filled with hay.
We your Christmas children be-
Help us now your love to see.

Gentle Jesus, come today
Be our shepherd, Lord we pray.

Gentle Jesus, come this hour
Fill us with your love and power.
You fell asleep in Mary’s arm
God kept you safe from all alarm.

Gentle Jesus, come today
Be our Shepherd now we pray.

Prayer #15

Dear Jesus, Today, I want to thank you for all you’ve done for me. Thank you for my wonderful parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents, and rest of my family. Thank you for my pets, my room, my teachers at school, my baby sister, and for Christmas. Thank you for Santa Claus on Christmas morning, and the presents that sit under the tree.
