Every aspect of cancer is scary and leaves the person battling cancer feeling scared and helpless, but we can pray for them and be there for them in the biggest fight of their life so that they know they aren’t in it alone. A Prayer for My Chemo
Lord of Power, I pray that You will be with me when I start chemo this week. I am scared, Lord. I fear what it will do to my body. I know I am going to feel terrible. Lord, when I am in that chemo chair, wash Your peace over me. Comfort me. Flood me with Your love. When I feel the drugs in my veins, make me visualize and feel Your mighty power into my veins.  Minimize the side effects and maximize the effectiveness. Quickly kill all the cancer cells in my body, Lord. Help me on the path to recovery soon. Protect me from secondary cancers from the chemo killing all the good cells, too. I need Your protection over my health now and for the rest of my life, dear Lord. Be one with me. Indwell Your Holy Spirit in me. Never leave me. Never ever leave me. Wrap me up and hold me, my Lord. O God, my Strength, I pray You give me the perseverance to fight my cancer. Give me grit. Give me endurance. I am already feeling the life leave my body. I am losing the will to live. I don’t think I want to give up, but I am actually not thinking. I feel blank. I feel numb. I am starting to feel like the walking dead – hopeless and lifeless, but somehow still breathing. Jesus, the Great Physician, I am losing my hair as I go through chemo. I know, Jesus, that You can do all things. Help me not to be self-conscious about it. I have decided not to buy a wig. There are a ton of options, I don’t like the hairstyles, they are expensive, and supposedly hot and uncomfortable. Instead, give me the courage to go without hair and be proud of my battle scar that is my baldness. After the chemo is finished, please help my hair grow back, and grow back in an appearance and texture that looks good on me. This is really overwhelming me, Jesus. It is not enough that I have cancer, but it has to change the way I see myself every time I look in the mirror. It has to make me want to hide from the public so people cannot see how I look. Help me to see myself as Your child, and not a body with a head of hair. I am more than a head of hair. People will see me and they will understand. So many people have cancer. It is not just me. This is not just my cross. Make me proud to have lived through this nightmare, Jesus. Make me proud to have been spared from death. I am a warrior and You are my Savior. A Prayer for My Children after My Passing
Compassionate Father of All Comforts, I pray that You would be with my kids during this time. There is a real chance that I won’t make it, Lord, and I pray that You take care of them if I don’t. I know that You will be with them, but I worry about how they will feel and how they will cope. Wipe the tears from their eyes. Heal their emotional scars. Plant smiles in their hearts. Bring them the peace of knowing that I am happy, that I am next to You, and that they will see me again one day. Let them know I am lovingly watching them. A Prayer for Keeping My Job During Treatment
God our Great Provider, I pray that my boss and colleagues will be patient and understanding as I have to miss so much work for all of these treatments. God, please help them to realize that this is temporary, and help me to keep my job. I don’t know what will happen if I lose it. I need it for the money for all the medical bills, and I need it for my sense of security. I know I should find my security in You, God, but my world has been turned upside down right now and I really can’t handle one more bad thing to happen to me. Calm me of my anxiety over this. God of Victory, I pray that You would be with my mom as she starts chemo today. This will be a season where we really need You, Lord. I pray that the chemo would be effective. Almighty and Everlasting God, I pray that You bless me during my radiation treatment sessions. May the sessions draw me closer to You, God. May they increase my faith.
