21 Short Christian Prayers for Missionaries

Many missionaries face daily threats depending upon where they are at in the world. Bringing the Word of God to others is no easy task. These short Christian prayers for missionaries will help you to plea with the Lord for their ongoing safety, provisions, and success.

Prayer #1

Lord of the harvest, protect your workers. Shield them from: danger, disease, deceit, delusion, divisions, diversions, denial, and demonic oppression. Keep them hopeful in times of disappointment and discouragement – those unavoidable realities that build character and faith. Give them determination to glorify you, whatever the cost. Amen.

Prayer #2

Lord our God, loving Father, we humbly pray to you for our beloved missionaries, heralds of the Gospel. May our prayersreach their hearts that they may feel our love, our strength, our faith.

May our prayers reach their hearts that they continue with your zeal the mission you entrust them with. May their presence in their community be a reminder of your presence among us. Amen.

Prayer #3

God of truth and love, Father Son and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. We ask that they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel.

Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church; raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness; full of love, strength and faith – for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world.

Prayer #4

Dear Lord, as this family goes to serve you, whether it be in a foreign land or even just to another area of their own country, please keep their relationship strong. I ask that you remind them that they are very special to one another, especially while they are serving you in this manner. Please also protect and provide for the family and friends that they have left behind. Help them to look forward to the next time they are able to see one another. Remind them to pray too because You love to hear from Your children. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Prayer #5

Dear Lord I pray this prayer of health for these dear servants of Yours. Help them to always know what Your word says “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. “(Psalms 91:1-6 KJV). You are the Great Physician and I place their health in Your hands.

Prayer #6

Lord of truth, refuge and strength. Your Word is sure, true and altogether righteous. I ask that You would cause me to thirst anew for Your Word each day. Teach me, Lord, the way of Your decrees, that I may follow them to the end. Give me understanding so I may treasure Your Law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of Your commandments, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward Your statutes and not toward selfish gain or a foolish squandering of that which You have given me. Turn my eyes away from worthless things and preserve my life according to Your Word. Fulfill Your promise to Your servant so You may be feared and praised. May Your Word dwell with me so my lips might boldly declare Your truth, love and mercy toward sinners. This I ask in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer #7

Through his intercession help us to reach out with the healing touch of Christ who calls us to holiness and to Mission. May we build communities which are signs of your presence, and share the Good News of salvation with all peoples. For this we dedicate ourselves, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer #8

Dear God, I pray for these people whom you have sent that they will have open doors and that when they open their mouth that the Holy Spirit will speak the words with great clarity. I pray that they can explain in no uncertain terms that Jesus is the Savior of the world and that He willing gave His life to pay their sin debt. I pray that they will understand that Jesus also proved victory over death by rising from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures. I pray that this truth will convert souls and change lives. I pray in the name of Jesus the Christ, Amen.

Prayer #9

Blessed Lord God, who by Your Son commanded me to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature, increase my faith and zeal that I may more earnestly desire the salvation of all people. I confess that often my heart is cold and my ears are dull to Your mission cry. I have not deserved to be called to Your church and privileged to become Your messenger. Forgive my indifference for Jesus’ sake, and by Your Holy Spirit fill my heart with a burning zeal to bring the light of the everlasting Gospel to unbelievers—both at home and abroad. Give me a loving heart, sincerity of speech, and piety of life to adorn my Christian profession of faith. May I never by ungodly conduct or unbecoming speech give unbelievers an excuse for criticizing the Gospel of Christ. Knowing that this world is drawing to a close, may I by Your Spirit’s prompting support the mission program of my church with my personal witness, my earnest prayers, and my sacrificial gifts. Grant that through me many may be saved from the kingdom of darkness for the kingdom of Your light, through Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Lord. Amen.

Prayer #10

Dear Precious God of our fathers, comfort our dear friends as they are homesick. Remind them that they are in Your loving care and that You are always with them even when they are not able to spend time with the loved ones that they left behind. Help them to remember the words of Your Son when he said “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.” (John 16:20-22)

Prayer #11

Lord, I thank You for saving faith and Your promise of eternal life. Make me ever grateful for these blessings and increase my willingness to serve You, especially to witness to Your gracious love for all sinners. I pray dear Lord, support me with Your power as I witness to others. Too often I have missed opportunities to speak for You. Forgive me where I have failed. Help me see opportunities for witnessing, and give me the courage to speak up. Increase my concern for lost souls and my desire to witness; strengthen me according to my great need. Lord, I often don’t know what to say, but You know. I am weak and afraid, but You are strong. Make Your love my love; Your words my words; and Your strength my strength. Help me speak the right word at the right time, and with all Your children on earth help me to go forth to new victories for You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer #12

Dear Lord during this time when our dear brother and sister are away from us I pray that you grant them the time that they need to spend with You. Give them just a few minutes of quiet time each day to meditate upon Your word so that their relationship with You continually grows. I pray that as they study they will hide Your word in their heart and as they need it to be recalled to their memory that Holy Spirit prompts them at just the right time. Dear Lord, I pray this prayer in the precious name of your Son and my Savior, Jesus.

Prayer #13

Jesus, Lover of souls, Shepherd of all who stray and make mistakes, You do not desire that any should perish but that all people might be saved from sin and come to a knowledge of the truth. I come to You on behalf of my friends who still live without hope in this world and who have closed their hearts and lives to Your gracious invitation. Grant that they may come and find rest and peace for their souls. Give me the grace to use every opportunity by word and conduct to bear witness to You and Your love. May my decisions and interests show my associates that I put You first in my life and thought. May my behavior at all times reveal Your gracious presence in me. Make me thoughtful, considerate, helpful and patient in their presence. Open the eyes of my family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to see the wonders of Your love, the blessedness of belonging to You, and the joy and satisfaction that service rendered to You gives each day. Abide with me, and bless each effort of mine to win souls for You, most honorable Savior and Friend. Amen.

Prayer #14

Dear Lord Your servants are hard workers and I ask that You prompt them to take time to rest and relax because their body needs it. Lord I pray that they will follow Your example for You worked 6 days and rested on the 7th. Help them to know that relaxing is a good thing. Help us to remember that it is a natural and needed thing for our missionaries to take a break. I pray through Jesus, Amen.

Prayer #15

Dear Father in heaven, I thank You that You have made me a child of Yours and have allowed me to help build Your kingdom. Every day I pray, “Thy kingdom come.” With all my heart I want Your kingdom to come, and I want to do my part that it may come. Show me how I may proclaim Your Name and how I may speak of Your glorious majesty and Your wonderful works. Open a way of service for me in my congregation. Give me work in which I can serve You best. If it please You, move those who are entrusted with the administration of the congregation to seek my service, or give me courage to go. Lord, give me the power to witness for You at home, in my work, on my vacations, or wherever I may be so that those with whom I live and work may know the love I have for You. Increase the clarity of my witness for the transformation of unbelievers and for the strengthening of believers. Hear me in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer #16

Dear Lord I pray that I may be able to financially support these people that You have sent to do Your work. I pray that I can do it with a cheerful heart and that I may be able to be generous. Lord I also pray that you touch other’s hearts to give to the support of these missionaries. I pray that every man may give as he purposed in his heart to give. God we know all things come from You and trust that as we give we can also trust that You will continually provide for us as well. Lord we love You and pray in the name of Jesus

Prayer #17

My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. He hath showed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. (Luke 1:46-55 KJV)

Prayer #18

Dear Heavenly Father I pray that you fulfil the joy of these dear brothers and sisters, help them to be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in them, which was also in Christ Jesus: (based on Philippians 2:2-5). I pray in Jesus name, Amen

Prayer #19

Almighty and everlasting Lord, ruler of all, we commend our nation and its leaders to Your supreme care. We humbly ask that you have mercy on this nation and call us to loving repentance. Purge our land from sinful pleasures, dishonesty and corruption. By Your mighty hand shield this nation from evil so Your church can do its work in peace. Bless our president, the members of Congress, and all officials who serve us in national, state and local government. Impress upon those who serve this nation to grasp the sacredness of the responsibility You have placed upon them. Give our leaders the gifts for righteous leadership, wisdom to make decisions that will bring godly order, justice to our society, and compassion for the weary. Transform the hearts and minds of all who are in authority so their governance might glorify You. Give us hearts to continually pray for our leaders. Provide us with freedom of worship and a nation in which Your church might flourish by the clear proclamation of Your Gospel. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Prayer #20

Lord I pray that my brethren are strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. I pray that they put on the whole armour of God, that they may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. I also pray that they take on the whole armour of God, that they may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having their loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And their feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith they shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. This is my prayer for these precious servants, in Jesus name, Amen.
