6 Uplifting Prayers for Addicts and Alcoholics

James 1:12-14
Heavenly Father, I pray that You give me the strength to patiently endure testing and temptation. I know that by overcoming my addiction through You, I will receive the crown of life that You have promised me. Your Word says that blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life. So, Lord I know that my temptation does not come from You, but from my fleshy desires. Help me flee from my temptation, Lord, so that I can receive that crown of life. Amen.

1 Corinthians 10:13
Dear Lord, I know that the spirit of addiction and alcoholism is not of You. But I am assured that because of Your nature, You are faithful and will not allow the temptation to be more than I can stand. I pray that when I am tempted, I look to You so that You can provide a way out that I can endure it in line with Your Word. This is the prayer of my heart. Amen.

Galatians 6:9
Oh God, I want to do good and I am trying to live righteously especially when I am tempted to give in to my addictions. I pray that I do not grow weary while doing good because at the right time, I will reap a harvest of blessing so long as I don’t give up. Give me the strength to flee from my fleshy desires Lord. This is the prayer of my heart. Amen.

1 John 3:18-20
Heavenly Father, I recognize that my addiction and alcoholic activities does not reflect Your truth, but I pray that everything I do and say, shall be done in deed and in truth in line with Your Word. So, forgive me Lord, because I have not been totally honest and my actions have not always demonstrated You. Therefore, I ask that You take away these untruthful desires, so that I can be confident when I stand before You. Amen.

James 5:16
Dear Lord, I confess that I am an alcoholic/addict and I pray that I may be healed and restored in Jesus’s holy name. I repeatedly cry out this prayer to You because I know of the great power within prayer, because the fervent prayer of righteous man avails much. I declare healing from this addiction and thank You in advance for my deliverance. Please hear me, your child, cry out to you for help. Amen.

Psalms 51:1-2,7,&10
Dear God, I thank You for Your unfailing love and tender mercy towards me. It is because of Your love that I can be made clean from my sins. I pray that You wash the guilt of addiction from me. Purify me from my sin so that I may be clean and whiter than snow. Create in me a clean heart Lord and renew the right spirit within me. Amen.
