Every single person that lives and breathes is a sinner, but God sent His one and only Son to save us from our sins. Here are 10 powerful prayers for sinners.
Prayer for My Salvation
Jesus, my Rock and my Redeemer, I am a sinner and unworthy of Your love. I have gone my own way and walked my own path away from You. And yet You loved me still. You paid the debt of my sin, and You bore it all for me on the cross. You took away the sins of the entire world. You rose again giving me a new life and the promise of rising again in heaven. Have mercy on me, precious Jesus. Help me leave my old ways behind. Help me surrender completely to You. I trust in You, Jesus, for all that I am and all that I will ever be. Thank You, that no power on earth can now separate me from Your love. Amen.
Prayer for a Revival
Mighty God, my Sustainer, You are the one true God. In You, there is true salvation. Just as the Psalmist asked, will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Make us alive in You, almighty Father. Restore us, my righteous Savior. Turn us from our wicked ways and renew our spirits. Your law is perfect and revives our souls. Bring a movement of sinners turning to You, Lord. Work through Your Spirit to convict the hearts of men and women, bring them to humbly admit their guilt before You, and trust in Jesus for forgiveness and grace. Refresh us from the presence of You. In the name of my most precious Savior, the Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for My Understanding of God’s Grace
Father God of compassion and mercy, I come to You, broken by sin and strangled by my guilt. My mind tells me that You have shown me grace by forgiving my sin through Jesus’ death on the cross. Still, my heart does not understand it. My mind reminds me that Your grace is a gift that overcomes my sin and washes it away. But my heart does not grasp the freedom from shame You have given me. It does not understand how I could be given what I do not deserve. It does not understand how You could unconditionally love an unlovable wretch like me. Father, I am sorry for my wrongdoing. Your magnificence is beyond my comprehension. Thank You, Father, that the power of the cross is greater than my sin. I praise Your beautiful name, and I pray in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
Prayer for Hope for My Sanctification
Jesus, I try again and again to do the right thing, but I fail every time. I feel like I am a failure and I know that I am a sinner all too well. But You give me more grace. Your forgiving hands welcome me, still. Your loving arms embrace me, again. I know that You will bring the work You started in me to completion for the day of Your coming. By Your Holy Spirit, You have begun to change me. You have given me a new heart and filled it with peace. I confess my sins to You, Lord Jesus. I know that though I still fall, You are faithful and just. You will forgive me and cleanse me from my unrighteousness. Your promises are sure, and in them, I hope because of my faith in You. Amen.
Prayer to the Master Potter to Change Me
Master Potter, Creator, I need You to make me new. Wipe away my past and let me start over. I keep on doing the wrong things – things that I do not want to do. I want You to make me different. Change me, God. You are the Master Potter and I am the clay. Fashion me with Your hands into a vessel for Your honor, sanctified and useful for You, prepared for every good work. My life is Yours, God. I lift my hands to praise Your holy name and surrender to You. Have Your way with me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer of Gratitude That Jesus Has Paid It All
Abba, Father, I could write a thousand songs and sing a thousand more praising Your wondrous gift of salvation which Jesus bought for me on the cross. I am a sinner, so You sent a Savior. Thank You, O my Father, for giving me Your Son. Every sin has been paid for, and I am now a new creature in Jesus Christ. Thank You for the hope of heaven, where I will be able to sing Your praises forever and ever. Amen.
Prayer to Tell God About the Wrongs Things I Have Done
Dear Father God, I feel bad and am sorry because I have done things that I know are wrong. You are the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. You know the wrong I have done. There is no hiding from You. Yet, You say that when anyone becomes aware that they are guilty, they must confess in what way they have sinned. So I come to You, Father, to tell You what I have done and to ask for Your forgiveness and mercy. Cleanse me of my sins and purify me from all unrighteousness. I do not want to do things like that again, so help me to do good things instead. Because of Jesus, I know You have forgiven me, and You are going to help me to be better. Thank You that You always love me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayer to Ask for God to Forgive Me
God of unfailing love, I am sorry. I knew what I did was wrong, but I still did it. Please forgive my wickedness. I know Jesus died to take away my sins. I want to be better. You tell me to trust in You with all my heart and not depend on my own understanding. You tell me to seek Your will in all I do, and You will show me which path to take. I need You to do that for me, God. Show me the path and guide my actions so that I can avoid temptation, and if I cannot avoid it, resist it. I cannot achieve righteousness on my own. Work through me and be in me. Amen.
Prayer Saying Thank You
Dear God of enduring faithfulness, even though I make mistakes, You love me unconditionally. I fall down, and You pick me up. Thank You for Your great big love for me, that flows over me, in me and around me. Thank You that You have given me my family and my friends to help and support me. Thank You that You have entered my heart and are always with me. Thank You that You sent Jesus to die for me. I wait patiently for Your kingdom to come, Lord. I praise You with all my heart! I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High! Amen!
Prayer for Conviction of Others
Righteous and holy God, You are mighty and sovereign. You have sent Your Holy Spirit to the world to convict of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Father, according to Your will, I pray that You convict sinners of their sin. Move them to godly grief – grief that leads to repentance. May their hearts tremble when they remember Your holy law written on their hearts. I do not pray this out of a heart of pride, but so that people come to the only place where forgiveness can be found – at the foot of the cross. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
