If you know someone who is afflicted with a deadly disease, recite one of these Catholic prayers for cancer patients. These are some great prayers for bringing comfort and strength to the Lord during this time of suffering.
Prayer for Divine Strength
Everlasting Father, I pray that You give me divine strength so that I do not lose heart in my battle with cancer. Even though my outer nature is wasting away, my inner nature is being renewed day by day. For this slight (in relation to You) momentary affliction is preparing me for an eternal weight of glory beyond measure, because I look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen (such as my cancer) is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal. Amen.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Prayer to Hear Me in My Distress
Oh Lord, it seems like everything around me is falling apart. I have been diagnosed with cancer and I am honestly in distress. But in my distress, I call upon You; to You my God I cry for help. I cry to You with faith knowing that from Your temple You hear my voice and my cry to You reaches Your ears. Thank You for hearing me in my moment of distress, let this fact be a comfort to me as I endure this journey. Amen.
Psalm 18:6
Fight Prayer
King of Kings, I know that You will fight for me, and I shall hold my peace. They often call dealing with cancer a “battle,” but Lord, this battle is one that I give unto You because I am not strong enough to fight this in my own strength. Instead, I cling onto peace right now and I rejoice in advance for You being the Mighty Warrior in my cancer battle. Amen.
Exodus 14:14
Prayer to Take This Burden from Me
Prince of Peace, I come to You because I am weary, and I am carrying a heavy burden. Since my cancer diagnosis, I have felt a heavy burden on my shoulders, but I know that You will give me rest. Lord, I take Your yoke upon me, and will learn from You; for You are gentle and humble in heart, and I will find rest for my soul. So long as I take Your yoke (Your teaching) and remain Your faithful servant, I will have a sense of peace – it is not laborious, but instead is joyful. For Your yoke is easy, and Your burden is light. Amen.
Matthew 11:28-30
My Trust Is in God Prayer
Almighty God, when Your people cried to You in their trouble, You saved them from their distress. So, I cry out to You right now so that I may be saved from the distress of my diagnosis. Instead, I receive the word that You sent out so that I can be healed (emotionally, spiritually and physically) from this trauma and delivered from my destruction. Although I rely on the doctors to an extent, ultimately it is in You that I put my trust. Amen.
Psalm 107:19-20
Prayer for Renewal of Strength
God of Strength, I wait upon You for I know that You will renew my strength, I will mount up with wings like eagles, I shall run and not be weary, I shall walk and not faint. I proclaim this word over my life, and I receive it in faith! Thank You in advance for Your word which prevails over my cancer diagnosis. Let my life be an example of Your glory and Your matchless power. Amen.
Isaiah 40:31
Prayer to My Rock and My Salvation
Magnificent Wonder, You alone are my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken! On You Lord rests my deliverance and my honour; my mighty rock, my refuge is in You. I will trust in You at all times; I trusted You when I was of good health and now, I trust You as a cancer patient, I will still trust You when I am again cancer-free. I rest upon You, I pour my heart before You for You are my Counsellor, and You are a refuge for me. Amen.
Psalm 62:6-8
My Hope Is in God Prayer
Heavenly Father, Your word declares that You know the thoughts that You think towards me, thoughts of peace and not of evil, thoughts that give me hope and a future. I pray that even in my battle with cancer, I see these thoughts manifest in my life. I will see peace in my life, I will see hope and a future manifest, in Jesus’ Name! Thank You for being the Good Good Father that always wills good things for me. Amen.
Jeremiah 29:11
Prayer for a Heart Full of Your Holy Spirit
Anointed One, the Scriptures say that I shouldn’t let my heart be troubled, I believe in You God the Father, and the Son. I know that in heaven there are many dwelling places, and if it were not so, Your Son would not have said that he would go to prepare a place for us. I thank You for sending Your Son so that even though I am enduring a difficult battle with cancer here, I know that there is a place in heaven – in eternal peace and in Your divine presence – for me. Amen.
John 14:1-4
Prayer to Feel the Unseen
Holy Lord, it is in hope that I am saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Lord, I hope in You, I hope that You will heal me from my cancer diagnosis; but give me a heart of patience to wait for these things that I hope for. I pray that I do not become bitter as I wait. Amen.
Romans 8:24-25
God Is My Treasure Prayer
Blessed be Your Name Lord, I praise You in my heart, mind, and soul even though my body is in pain and does not feel like worshipping. Lord, I pray that You remain at the forefront of my heart and remain as the treasure of my heart as I continue to fight against my cancer. I pray that I speak positive things into the atmosphere because death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Amen.
Proverbs 18:21
Prayer to Remain in God’s Hands
God of Heaven, I cast all my cares upon You, for You care for me. You care for me more than anyone or anything. You care for me more than the doctors who tend to me, so I know that I am in good hands. Although cancer continues to fight against my body physically, spiritually I am at peace knowing that all of this is in Your hands. Thank You for assuming responsibility for my cares. Amen.
