“Extroversion” is a term first introduced by psychologist Carl Jung as a personality trait, where an individual puts his energy outwards to seek stimulus from being outgoing and social, seeking excitement from outside environment and taking risk during activities. In the modern Western world, many people praise extroverts, as they are perceived to be often socially intelligent and well-adjusted. Extroverts come with a lot more rich experiences than introverts, but they are not all good as there are also drawbacks to them. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of being an extrovert:
List of Advantages of Being an Extrovert
1. It promotes fast growth for the individual.
With an outgoing nature, an extrovert is likely to develop in his professional life much quicker than those who are reserved and shy, as they can impress other people easily with confidence. Also, he makes a good contact in a short period of time, which means that he can achieve his goals faster.
2. It makes him socially active.
An extrovert feels the need to be among other people all (or at least most) of the time, which means that he will always be socially active. This will get him always in contact with new people and offer him new opportunities to experience new things in life. Because of this, he will be able to understand other people and be sensitive to their needs. As you can see, people often admire extroverts for their charm and cheerful talks.
3. It makes him expressive.
Among other types of personality, an extrovert can express his feelings easily compared with introverts, which means that he can let his heart out with anybody. This expressive nature can be a huge advantage for him as it can help him become relaxed and feel good. Moreover, this will enable him to get more good friends, though it can also create more haters.
List of Disadvantages of Being an Extrovert
1. It can make a person offensive or annoying unknowingly.
Extroverts can be annoying or offensive without them realizing it or not understanding what is annoying or offensive about what they have just did or said. Also, they would be the first ones to say others are too afraid to try something or tell people how they should interpret or feel about something, but this can sometimes make the situation worse.
2. It breeds lack of self-awareness.
An extrovert tend to lack self-awareness or not to think of how other people view things or others. There are certainly some negative things that can come with not being aware of how you can affect other people.
3. It makes a person say or do things that he should not.
Extroverts also tend to think that they are friendly or fun in the eyes of other people, but this is not always a positive thing. In fact, things would not go as well as you might expect if you are one who does not think things all the way through before doing them. Bad stuff and consequences can definitely happen to you.
Being an extrovert comes with great benefits, but it can also come with some drawbacks. Now, by knowing its advantages and disadvantages, you will be able to carry your extraversion gracefully to ensure better consequences than worse.
