6 Christening Prayers for Godparents

Psalm 127:3
Abba Father, Your Word reminds us that, children are a heritage from the Lord. So, we pray for the God parents who have willingly agreed to take on the responsibility to support the parents, families and the God child throughout the year in spiritual disciplines. Help them to be faithful in prayer. Give them a good listening ear. So grant them, the Spirit of encouragement, as well as strength, care and kindness. Let their lives be an example to their God child, Amen.

3 John 1:4, 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Heavenly Father, we bless you for the God parents of the family of (family name). Lord teach them the responsibility of being good God parents. Help them to demonstrate the Spirit of prayer. Let their care and nurturing of (God child’s name), be consistent with Your Word, so that they (God parents) will have no greater joy than to hear that their God child / God children are walking in the truth, Amen.

Proverbs 22:6, Proverbs 1:5
Dear Lord, Proverbs 22:6, declares, train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. We pray for God parents, that they will share the responsibility with the parents/ guardians of (God child’s name), in training them up in the way they should go. Let each God parents be wise to hear and increase in learning and those who understand their responsibility as God parents, I pray that they will obtain guidance from You Lord, Amen.

1 Timothy 1:2
Dear Lord, we thank You for Your Word that reminds us that God parents can provide spiritual support to children and young people. So we pray that God parents will help (God child’s name), to grow in spiritual maturity, just as apostle Paul mentored Timothy; his son in the faith. Lord, we pray Your grace, mercy and peace upon God parents, in the power of Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior, Amen.

Philippians 4:13, Isaiah 43:5
Heavenly Father, being a God parent can be a very daunting responsibility. But Your Word says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. So, Lord we pray that you will give strength to every God parent in Jesus Name.. I also pray, that they will not fear because Your Word says do not fear for I am with you. Please Lord, be with each God parent to (child’s name) that they will be successful in this spiritual supportive role, we ask, Amen.

John 3:16
Father, Your Word says, for God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son. In the same way You Father, have demonstrated Your Love for mankind, we pray that each God parent will mirror that agape love to (God child’s name), that You have shown. Let this God parent and God child relationship be built on foundations of love, as well as Your guidance and Word. Lord we ask all of this in Your Name, Amen.
