6 Good Prayers for Controlling the Tongue

1 Peter 3:10
Beautiful One, I am grateful for my life and I want to see good days, so I pray that I keep my tongue from evil and my lips from deceitful speech. Let the words that I use be transparent and honest so that I can be an appropriate reflection of You. I pray against thoughts of lying, malicious talk or any other negative use of words, because speech was not given for me to abuse. Instead let me build up things with words that come from You, Amen.

Colossians 4:6
Wonderful Counsellor let our conversations be full of grace and seasoned with salt, so that we may know how to answer everyone. We pray that we do not respond out of malice or anger towards people but let the words that we speak be words that we have reflected on. Let the words that we speak be words with a purpose in line with Your will. Let the words that we speak be words from lips that have been blessed by You, Amen.

Proverbs 15:4
Awesome God, I thank You for who You are, You are worthy to be praised. I pray that just as good things come out of my mouth when I praise You, let this be the same when I am not praising You. I pray that my speech is always full of good things because the soothing tongue is the tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit. When I praise You, I am building up my spirit, I pray that I do not counteract this in the way that I speak to people, Amen.

Ephesians 4:29
God of Love, I pray that I do all things in love, even talking. I declare that no unwholesome talk comes out of my mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. I pray that my words edify, encourage and comfort Your people at all times because You want me to do good in everything. I pray that You be glorified in my speech, Amen.

Proverbs 10:19
Righteous Father, I pray that when I need to, I bite my tongue. Your word says that sin is not ended by multiply words, but the prudent hold their tongues. Lord, allow me to be wise and hold my tongue when necessary. I pray that I do not let my words be directed and guided by my anger in heated situations, instead let my words be led by peace and love, Amen.

Proverbs 15:28
Holy God, I thank You for who You are, I thank You for changing me so that I have become more like You. Lord I pray that I remain righteous and I pray that I weigh up my answers before giving them to people, because a wicked person gives no thought and instead gushes evil. I pray that I do not become like the wicked and spew words that are not right, or holy. As a believer, I pray that I remain set apart, in my thoughts, behaviours and in my speech, Amen.
