Expecting a child can be one of the most joyous moments in your life. These powerful prayers for pregnant mothers encourage good health, ongoing comfort, and excitement for what is to come.
Safe Delivery Prayer
Father God, you’re the one who gives life. I want to thank you for the precious gift that you have created in my womb. Lord, as I approach the final days of this journey, I ask you to grant me a safe delivery. Remove fear from my heart and fill me with your unconditional love. As the labor pains begin, send your angels to strengthen me so that I can remain strong throughout the delivery process. I thank you for giving me and my child a perfect life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Pregnancy Complication Prayer
O Holy Father, you are the God that can turn an impossible situation into a possible one. Father, I come to you today asking you for a complication-free pregnancy. Protect the baby and me. Let these nine months be free from any manner of complications that arise during pregnancy. No manner of sickness or disease will prosper in my body and affect this child. In Jesus’ name, I believe and pray, Amen.
Unborn Child Protection Prayer
Dear God, the enemy is against children that are being born in families that worship you. He is destroying children when they are still innocent. That is why I come to you today asking you to protect my child when it is still in the womb up to when he or she will be born and become an adult. No weapon forged against this unborn child shall prosper, and I refute any tongue that will rise against my child as he or she grows into an adult. I cover him or her with the blood of the lamb. In Jesus’ name, I do believe and pray, Amen.
High-Risk Pregnancy Prayer
O Lord, my God, the doctors, have termed this pregnancy a high-risk pregnancy. But Father, you promised us this child. It doesn’t matter what the medical report says, what matters is what you have promised. Your word says that the fruit of my womb is blessed, and I stand firm in those words. I cancel and nullify all negative words that have been spoken over this pregnancy, in the name of Jesus. We shall not die but live to declare the glorious works of God. We are covered with the blood of Jesus, Amen.
Blessing Prayer
Heavenly Father, your word says that children are a gift from the Lord. I come to you today to thank you for giving us this beautiful gift. It is not because we are good people, but it is because you are a good father. Father, I speak a blessing over my child and I. May you surround us with favor and love as with a shield. Let every stage of pregnancy come with its share of blessing. May we be a blessing to this home, Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Baby’s Purpose Prayer
Lord God Almighty, we are all here for a purpose. This unborn child is coming into this world in a few months for a purpose. He or she is not an accident. Lord, establish the purposes you have for our child. Let anything that does not align with the plans you have for this child be thwarted, in Jesus’ name. Help us to teach our child the things that align with your word. Show us how to raise this child for the glory and honor of your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Peace during Pregnancy Prayer
Loving Father, you tell us in your word that we should not be anxious for anything. But the truth is I am full of anxiety right now. I fear for the health of the baby and me. Lord, I cannot continue to walk like this and risk this pregnancy, so today, Father, I come boldly before your throne of grace, asking you to fill me with the peace that surpasses all understanding. I surrender everything that is troubling my heart to you, and I chose to walk in the same peace Jesus has because I know that you are watching over the two of us. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Inadequacy Prayer
O dear God, as a first-time mother-to-be, I am scared of what awaits me. I feel inadequate. My mind is full of thoughts of failure; I fear that I will not be a good mother to my child. Lord, right now, I don’t know how to balance life as a pregnant woman, wife, career woman, and friend. Teach me how to go about this. I don’t want to let others down, but I find it so hard and overwhelming. Give me divine strength that I may be able to handle things the way you want me to. Help me to take good care of this unborn child and myself. In Jesus’ name, I believe, and pray, Amen.
Wisdom as a Parent Prayer
O God, I need wisdom on how to take care of this child. My husband and I cannot do this alone. We need guidance from you because this child is a gift from you. Let your word become a lamp unto my feet as I step into this motherhood journey. Father, let my doubts and fears be washed away with your word. Bring the right people my way that will help me to know how to take care of this child and remove the people that will give me advice that doesn’t align with your word. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Love Prayer
O Holy God, you have created this child in my womb out of pure love. Help him or her to love you too. Teach me how to love this child right so that out of that love, he or she may understand the love you have for us as your children. Give me the strength to show this unborn child unconditional love, forgive my shortcomings, and lead me in the path that I should take as a mother. In Jesus’ name, I believe and pray, Amen.
Thanksgiving Prayer
Heavenly Father, I want to bless and magnify your name today. We have prayed for this bundle of joy, and now he or she is here being knit together in my womb. I want to thank you for granting my husband and I the desire of our hearts. O Lord, thank you for entrusting us with such a huge responsibility. Teach us how to be good parents and help us to have a happy pregnancy season. We pray this believing in Jesus, Amen.
Prayer to Be Healthy
Lord, my Sustainer, I ask that you keep me healthy through the coming months of this pregnancy. Remind me to eat healthy foods, drink enough fluids, take my vitamins, and get adequate exercise and sleep. Protect me from negative thoughts or anxiety that would interfere with my health. Help me refrain from caffeine, alcohol, and smoking, and not have second-hand smoke around me. I pray for my healthcare providers, that they would quickly recognize if anything needs attention and give me the care I need. Amen.
Prayer Against Genetic Defects
Lord, our Protector and Defender, we ask you to protect our developing baby against any genetic defects. We speak against Down Syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis, Autism, Sickle Cell Anemia and any other diseases or syndromes that are inherited or occur in the early stage of pregnancy. In the name of Jesus, we curse all evil diseases that would steal, kill, and destroy our precious child. We forbid them from harming our baby and claim the abundant life Jesus came to give. Amen.
Prayer for Good Sleep
Jesus, my Prince of peace, I pray for my wife, that she would enjoy restful, restoring, and comfortable sleep throughout her pregnancy. Help her find a comfortable sleep position that is safe for her and our baby and where she is less likely to experience heartburn. Protect her from insomnia and night waking caused by hormonal changes, discomfort, or from our baby moving. Help her be able to get daytime naps when she needs them. Guard her against back pain, strange dreams, anxiety, or anything else that would prevent her from sleeping well. Amen.
Prayer Against Morning Sickness
O Jehovah, my God, I pray that you will deliver me from morning sickness. Give me freedom from this nausea and vomiting, so I can feel well, and so my baby will be healthy. Guide me in identifying nausea triggers, so I can avoid the foods or smells that are most likely to make me feel sick. Remind me to drink plenty of fluids and eat small, healthy snacks throughout the day. Help me find the food that works best for me. Enable me to get the rest I need. Thank you, God, for being with me through my pregnancy. Amen.
Prayer for Emotional Stability
Lord, our Stronghold, I ask you to bless my wife with emotional security during her pregnancy. As she deals with changing hormones and a changing body, may she remain calm and serene. We are both overjoyed at the thought of this new life, yet sometimes fearful about finances, changes in our life, or about being good parents. Give us peace as we trust in your care and provision. Protect my wife from mood swings, mental fogginess, and forgetfulness. Amen.
Prayer Against Discomfort
Lord, my Strength, please deliver me from this pain and discomfort I’m feeling during this pregnancy. I especially pray against back pain that sometimes shoots down to my hip and leg. It’s making it difficult to stand, sit, or sleep. Ease this pain and remind me to use good posture, have adequate back support when sitting, and to wear the right shoes. I also ask that you relieve pain from headaches and leg cramps, breast tenderness, and discomfort from heartburn and constipation. I thank you, Lord, that you are my healer. Amen.
Prayer for Plans
Jesus, our Good Shepherd, we need your guidance in making plans for now and also for when our baby comes. There is so much to think about and so much to decide. We need your wisdom about whether my wife should return to work after the baby is born. We don’t know if she should try to work from home now while she is pregnant so she can be rested and healthy for the delivery date. Please help us carefully consider our finances and the best decision for whether she should work during and after pregnancy. We also need your direction for housing decisions and purchases as we prepare for our baby’s arrival. Thank you for showing us what is best. Amen.
Prayer Against Fatigue and Feeling Unwell
Lord, our Strong Tower, I ask that you bless my wife with strength, with energy, and with wellness through her pregnancy. In the name of Jesus, I rebuke any fatigue and exhaustion, and I pray that she will get adequate rest during the day and through the night. I rebuke dizziness and unsteadiness that might cause a fall and harm to her and our baby. I pray that her blood sugar and blood pressure would be normal. I pray that she would not get dehydrated or overheated. I thank you for keeping her and our baby safe. Amen.
Prayer for Spiritual Parenting
Precious Holy Spirit, as I look forward to the birth of my baby, I ask you to assist my husband and me in spiritual parenting. We want to raise our child in the nurture of the Lord. Help us establish a family devotional time now, so that it’s a routine part of our life when my baby comes. Guide us in directing our dinner discussions toward spiritual things, such as your love and care, so our baby grows up in a home where you are the center. Remind me to sing spiritual songs and speak Bible promises over my baby, even while in my womb. Amen.
Prayer Against Disease During Pregnancy
Jehovah Rapha, my Healer, I pray that you keep my wife safe from all disease during her pregnancy. I pray against urinary tract infections, colds and other viral sicknesses, and any other sort of infection. Protect her from diabetes and blood sugar disorders. Keep her blood pressure in a healthy range – keep it from getting too high. Guard her from anemia and blood clots. Keep her heart and thyroid healthy. In Jesus’ name, I rebuke all medical problems that would cause harm to my wife’s body or cause a miscarriage or stillbirth. She is in your hands, mighty and all-powerful God. Amen.
Prayer for Healthy Weight Gain
Wonderful Lord, I pray for a healthy and steady weight gain during my pregnancy. I rebuke nausea and heartburn that affect my appetite and how much I eat. Help me to eat enough so that my baby grows normally and is not too small at birth. Guide me in making wise food choices so I gain enough weight but not too much. Guard me from eating too much sugar or unhealthy fats. Remind me to go for walks and other types of safe exercise, even when I don’t really feel like it. Bless my baby with a good weight at birth. Thank you, Lord, for holding me in your hands and helping me through my pregnancy. Amen.
Prayer Against Depression
Lord of heaven’s armies, I pray that you protect my wife from depression during her pregnancy and after our baby is born. Show ways to me, our family, and our friends that we can be supportive and encouraging to her through this time. Guide me in my words and in my actions so that I can say and do things that will help her feel safe, loved and cherished. Guard her from worries about health or finances or other things that might make her feel sad or hopeless. Defend her against hormonal changes that might trigger depression. Boost her self-esteem and help her feel confident that she will be a wonderful mother. Amen.
Prayer for Successful Breastfeeding
Lord, my Provider, I praise and thank you for the wonderful miracle of this new life growing inside of me. I want to be the best mother possible for this precious gift from you. I want to breastfeed my baby, so he or she will be healthy and we can bond well. When my baby is born, I pray that my baby will be able to breastfeed well, and that I will be able to produce enough milk. I pray against infections or pain while breastfeeding. If any problems arise, please send an experienced nurse or another helper to support me through the process. Amen.
Prayer for Confidence and Joy
God, the Creator of all things, I am almost speechless with joy that I will soon be holding my new baby in my arms. But I often feel nervous about being a new mother and whether I’ll do everything right. Even now, before my baby is born, give me the confidence I need. Help me to just enjoy this pregnancy and the life forming inside me. Help me to trust my God-given instincts and in your guidance. Assist me to be flexible, to accept help when it’s offered, and to maintain a sense of humor. Let me know everything will be alright. Amen.
